Her focus, particularly within the context of the black church, centers on the innovative social and entrepreneurial strategies these institutions employ to tackle disparities in wealth, health, and food insecurity within their communities.

A Multifaceted Academic Career

Prior to joining Baylor University, Dr. Boddie served as an assistant professor at Washington University in St. Louis. She has also held prestigious fellowships at both the University of Pennsylvania and Carnegie Mellon University. At Baylor, she holds faculty appointments across three different areas, teaching in the Garland School of Social Work, Truett Seminary, and the School of Education.

Recognitions and Accomplishments

Dr. Boddie's contributions to academia and social welfare are vast. She was selected to the 2017-18 class of Baylor’s Rising Stars Fellowship program and has co-authored several books and edited volumes. Notably, her research has culminated in the production of four short films.

Community Engagement and Impact

Dr. Boddie's commitment to community engagement is exemplified through her collaborative efforts with students. She partnered with Ana O’Quin, an undergraduate student in the School of Social Work, to receive the prestigious 2019 Hatfield Student-Faculty Research Prize for their study on teen food insecurity in Waco. Additionally, Dr. Boddie led a group of graduate students from various Baylor schools to build a greenhouse and expand outdoor learning at Connally Elementary School in Waco, demonstrating her dedication to practical, hands-on education.
